A tailor marking chalk lines on a suit jacket on the workbench

Suits measured, cut and finished for one person.

Crown Suit Designer

Bespoke and ready-made suits, shirt and trouser tailoring, alterations, and personal styling for business, wedding and traditional wear.

The workshop

We learned suits by cleaning them first

Years of cleaning fine tailoring taught us exactly how a good suit is built — and how a bad one fails. Crown Suit Designer opened on that knowledge. We measure properly, cut for the body in front of us, and fit twice before a jacket is finished. Alterations are welcome whether or not we made the garment.

Portfolio

Work from the bench

A navy two-piece suit photographed from the front

Navy two-piece, half-lined

Open-weave wool at 250 grams with a half lining — the default we recommend for daily wear in Dar es Salaam.

A charcoal pinstripe suit jacket on a mannequin

Charcoal pinstripe

A narrow stripe kept aligned across the lapel, pocket and vent — the detail that separates tailoring from assembly.

A light grey three-piece suit with waistcoat

Light grey three-piece

Waistcoat cut high to sit under a buttoned jacket without bunching.

A black dinner suit with satin lapels

Black dinner suit

Grosgrain-faced lapel and a covered waistband, made for evening light rather than daylight.

An ivory groom’s jacket with black trousers

Ivory groom’s jacket

Cut long in the body to read well in photographs taken from below, which is where wedding photographers stand.

Five groomsmen in coordinated suits

Groomsmen, five-piece order

One cloth family, five different body shapes, one repeated detail. Matched without cloning.

A tailor pinning a jacket sleeve during a fitting

Second fitting

The stage where sleeve length, shoulder and waist are finalised — eight weeks out, never eight days.

An unlined beige linen blazer

Unlined linen blazer

No lining at all, patch pockets, soft shoulder. The coolest jacket we make, in every sense.

A khaki safari-cut jacket

Safari-cut jacket

Four patch pockets and a soft collar — formal enough for an office, comfortable enough for the coast.

A white kanzu with embroidered neckline

Embroidered kanzu

Hand-finished neckline embroidery on fine cotton, cut to fall straight without clinging.

A tailored jacket and trousers in kitenge fabric

Kitenge jacket and trousers

Pattern matched across the centre seam and both pockets, which takes extra cloth and is worth it.

A traditional wedding outfit with kanzu and bisht

Traditional wedding set

Kanzu, bisht and cap made as one commission so the weights and whites match exactly.

Corporate uniforms on a rail

Banking floor uniform

Forty-two staff, one stored pattern set, repeat orders cut identically twelve months later.

Hotel reception uniforms

Hotel front-of-house

Built for a twelve-hour shift: breathable cloth, reinforced seams and a colour that hides nothing but survives washing.

Folded corporate shirts stacked by name

Corporate shirting run

Individually measured shirts delivered as one batch, each labelled by name rather than by size.

A suit jacket after alteration

Jacket taken in

An inherited jacket, reshaped through the waist and shoulders. The cloth was better than anything at the price today.

Suit trousers after alteration

Trousers re-cut

Leg narrowed and the break shortened. Two hours of work that changes how an entire suit reads.

Alterations

Most suits do not need replacing

Drag the handle. The cloth is the same in both halves — only the fit changed.
